Families and friends of East Central Elementary School’s second and third-grade students filed into the gymnasium on Thursday, November 18, in eager anticipation of watching their students perform during the school’s PTO Holiday Performance.
Melanie Daniel, Music Teacher at EC, prepared two songs for the special event.
The student’s first song was titled “Thanks,” in honor of the Thanksgiving holiday. Students sang about things they were thankful for, including their teachers, families, and more.
Third-grade student, Bailey Montgomery, then wowed the crowd with his drum-playing skills, earning a standing ovation from the crowd after his big finale. According to Daniel, Montgomery was the winner of last year’s talent show, which deserved a repeat performance for all of East Central’s families and friends.
The last performance included the use of rhythm sticks and choreographed dance, all to the tune of an authentic Native American song.
Daniel felt it was important to expose her students to other holidays that are celebrated during this time as well. It was evident the students found this multicultural experience successful as they performed the song and dance with great precision.
“These students have worked really hard and practiced a lot these past few weeks,” explained Daniel. “I am just super proud of them for their performance tonight.”
Happy Thanksgiving, Wolves!
